You can adjust permissions for files to control people’s access to files.
Share your file with a link
You can share your file by copy and pasting the file URL with anyone. By default, files are set to ‘Anyone with the link can edit’. You can adjust the permission by clicking on the dropdown and changing the permission levels.
Permission levels for files shared with a link
There are three file permission levels you can choose between:
- Anyone with the link can edit: grants edit access to the file
- Anyone with the link can view: removes edit access, but they can still view and comment on the file.
- Only invited people can access: removes edit and view access, unless they are explicitly added to the file with their email
Add people to your file
- In your file, click on the ‘Share’ icon button in the top-right corner
- Enter their email in the text field, separated by commas if adding multiple, and click ‘Invite’. Invitation emails will be sent to those addresses.
- Adjust permissions (Editor or Viewer) using the dropdown beside their email if needed.
Adjust permissions for each person
You can adjust the permissions for people added to the file by clicking on the dropdown beside their email and selecting one of the following:
- Editor: has edit access to the file
- Viewer: has view and comment access to the file
